I dont understand why nobody but you can hear the problem, I would take it to every dealer in town, you do know all dealers dont like each other, you might find another dealer hears a lot more if he wants your future business
Mine is the same way. If the bike is rode 30 minutes to a hour and gets good and hot that is when it goes crazy clattering. If the tempature in low and you don't ride it long it ok. But once it gets hot enough is real bad.

I called the Customer Service Center and spoke to person named Debbie. I explained that I had brought the bike in for it's 1000 mile check up and that I informed the service rep about the fifth gear noise, the squeeling brakes and the fact that the bike lists to the left. I also stated that these items were brought up as safety concerns. The Customer Service rep took my information and informed me that similar complaints have been made and that something WAS being done. What I would suggest to anyone that has been having these problems:
1) Bring your bike in and have the problems documented by the service rep and checked out. They have to document what they find.
2) Call the Customer Service Dept. (414-343-4056) and have their rep document your concerns and the fact that the service rep stated that there was no problem or such a problem does in fact exist.
This way they will have formal documentation that problems exist instead of a bunch of people just complaining on a web site.
My phone minutes to C/S and dealer probably exceed my mileage.I lost this debbie after one call.Lost my cool with that one.My bad.Law suit is my last resort and I agree that more fire power is needed on my end.I have no problem going to other dealers, but Im using the one a bought from first. And will use this one until rep is available. These dealers are really tied on this issue, the owners are strapped as well and the MOCO knows it.I cant totally fault my dealer.I rode my bike tonight and it was quiet.Yet I didnt run it long enough to get it hot.
I ride with ear plug installed all the time - gotta save what hearing I have left. After reading this thread I took a ride without them. DAMN, my bike makes a hell of a noise! It's got the whine, the clatter..the works. It runs very well however. In 6th gear at 2100RPM (60MPH) it really runs smooth. It's due for it's initial service, I'll file a complaint. If nothing is done, I'll ride it till it breaks...just hope it's not at speed!
WILL BE GOING TO MYTLE BEACH NEXT WEDNESDAY HOPE TO SEE A REP AT THE HARLEY SHOP NEAR BAREFOOT LANDING , THEIR HRS WILL BE OCT 3 , 10-6 4TH-7TH -8-8, AND 8TH 8-4 , EVERYBODY THAT CAN MAKE IT, COME GIVE HIM A EAR FULL ,

I'm in the same boat,,,, but guess what , next month my bikes get put away,, come spring, ride til Aug. then trade for a 08,,, then see what haps
I started this thread and have been following it since--lots of good advice out there and helpful feedback. Good to know I'm not alone with this. Thought I'd add a status update on my 07 FLHRS. It's been with the dealer for the past several days having a race tuner installed and some mapping/dyna work done. I've let them know from the start about the noises I get in 4th, 5th and 6th and yesterday they called to read me the service bulletin HD has apparently just released to it's dealers.
It will come as no surprise to anyone following this thread that the bulletin is addressed to the service managers and says to share with their customers complaining of transmission noises on the 2007's that the reason is due to the differences in how the gears are cut. I challenged this because I get the noise in 4th, 5th and 6th. By their logic, since the 5th gear is the straight cut one, I would expect to maybe hear more chatter in that gear. Why then do I get it in 4th, 5th and 6th no matter what rpm's I'm turning? The reply was that HD went on to say that the transmissions will sound different than any tranny in the past because of the new design and that customers should continue to follow up with their dealers and salespersons if they still have issues. I think what this tells us is they really don't know yet how to handle it.
Another interesting aside here. A lot of you out there have suggested going with the Redline product vs. the Syn3. In my case, I asked the service dept to put Redline in, hoping it might help. I was advised it could void my warranty. Because of all these problems, I will put Syn3 in for no other reason than to protect myself if and when there is a recall on these. The service manager agreed with this and without saying as much outwardly hinted that that's the direction he feels this is headed. So for any of you planning on doing what seems intuitively correct (putting different oils in different chambers having different heat and friction needs) you may need to think twice and go against your better instincts for now until they figure this out.
I had also complained of terrible surging issues that got worse after installing VH's and an SE air cleaner. A different dealer had downloaded a stage 1 map to the bike but it made it worse. This is because the download was intended for 07 touring EFI models but with the new stock SE pipes (yes there really is a download out there from HD but for this configuration so beware it will make your surging worse if you are running bigger pipes!). I had a race tuner put in and they mapped it according to my current configuration. I have not picked up the bike yet to bring it home but am told it runs perfectly now with no surging. I will remain cynical but hopeful and will put an update out when I get it home.
As for the transmission, my pipes drown the noises completely out. I will continue to run the bike and when the two year warranty gets close I may extend it. Aside from selling it (which in light of all the negative stuff going on with the 07's might be a mistake due to a likely lowered value) that's really all we can do--rely on warranties and hope that HD solves the problem before those expire.
I will put Syn3 in for no other reason than to protect myself if and when there is a recall on these. The service manager agreed with this and without saying as much outwardly hinted that that's the direction he feels this is headed
Recalls do take a while with having to manufacture new parts and prepare the dealers. Still you have to wonder about that letter...[sm=confused06.gif]
