Id say he would say youre lugging the motor, and bet he would be right. That said it should not clatter but lugging combined with a not correctly torqued compensator or a weak spring compensator is where your clatter noise is. Try riding the bike like it responds to, shifting at 2500 and above and bet it doesnt do it as bad. They will have a fix, but ragging on about the trans is just wasted fodder.

Actually people are talking about the whine in 5th and the clattering in 6th. Mine clatters in 4th, 5th and 6th, but worse in 6th. Factory rep will be coming in a couple of weeks to check it out. Want to bet on what he says.
Comp sprocket was torqued,it was good.I realize that ragging about it does no good but if noone raises h#ll about it nothing will be done. And having HDs C/S say this really gets your blood pressure up.Their people watch this forum believe me,so do dealers and the people that work for them.Im not a parader by any means and this bike will make the noise above what owners manual recommends. It will do it in other gears also. The lugging line is pure BS and they know it.Why dont they come out telling owners to keep the revs much higher than printed {MPH shift specs}.Put this new statement in writing?Because they know better. These bike were bought off by EPA etc at what they have printed. What they are telling some is well above their states speed limit.Gunny they have a happy new owners thread, maybe you should hang out there.
Gee, I shift above 2500 rpm and it still clatters. The 06 never clattered no matter the rpm. You must be a factory rep, Gunrunner, the way you constantly defend HD.
You sound like a R.U.B. How many harleys have you owned ? and actually drove ? The sound you are hearing is is the compensating sprocket listen to gunrunner , he knows what he is talking about. If you are that worried about it take it off and get one from a 06 and install it, if you dont know how to work on the bike take it to someone that does. Instead of talking do something.

Nah just a guy looking at it sanely,he hasnt had HD drive him to his edge.Gunrunner no hard feelings.
Ok pal,I own several hds, some back to the 40s,I do all my work on them. This one is under warranty and will be fixed under warranty so they cant dispute something and lay it in my lap.The 06 setup will not work on the 07s everything is different.Fast06 you have a handful of posts and havent really said anything yet.WHOS THE RUB.
07 ultra...had knocking in 5th gear and 6th gear....took in for 1K service and told them to check out this noise...got the call today that I have a bad compensator assembly and several parts are to be replaced...hopefully this will quiet it down...will repost when I getter back
No I dont work for harley, but I do live in the REAL WORLD and have owned many harleys new and used, Know that if given time harley will stand behind their product and fix whatever problem as they ALWAYS HAVE, but they cant just pull a fix out of their A$$ like most think. It will have to be something that is found, then tested only then will they release it, I feel for all the guys having problems. But if I was now so turned off by harley like some on here talk, id just sell the dang thing and buy some other brand rather than stay stressed out and die of a heart attack over it, If it had been 6 or 8 months id be upset, but its only been a little over 90 days since the 07's went on sale.
