Any associated engine noise? You didn't say.

Probably throwing a code. Clear it and see if it goes away.

Im sure your oil got too hot and thinned out causing the light to come on. I would change the oil and that should take care of it, if not you at least have to start with this step. This happened to me last year on a trip where I lost 20 psi, the oil was full but looked like water and was dark. After I changed the oil it was fine, also if you were overfilled or right at the top of the full mark the oil will thin out from aeration of having too much oil in the bike. Most will say to leave it about 1/2 qt below the full mark, especially in high heat locations. You have lost most all of the lubricity property of that oil from the heat and I would dump it and put in new oil/filter.

Don't your bike have 'parade mode' or something? Why you sitting for 40 minutes? Shut the motor off at least, doesn't take that long for the engine/oil to cool down 40 degrees.
Change your oil, and go for a ride....tell us how it goes.

I take my cue from the local bike officers. In the heat, shut the bike off until lights change or stopped traffic begins to move again. I've seen this alot in Las Vegas.
