Ok, so I went out and checked the secondary lock. here is what I found. When I put the connectors together I didn't seat the secondary lock in the connector all the way, so when I pushed the pins in the connector they went in too far and locked in preventing the secondary lock from seating in all the way.
What I did to fix it.
I pulled all the wires back out of the connectors and seated the secondary lock. Then pushed all the wires back in. BTW the wires are a little harder to push back in when the secondary lock is seated in all the way, I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers and grab a hold of the back part of the pin to push it in all the way. Don't push it too hard or you will push the secondary out again and have to start all over again. When the pins are in the right spot, the back end of the pin is about flush with the main body of the connector. I ended up making a mark inside of the body of the connector right at the secondary lock, so I could tell if the secondary lock moved.
Thanks for all the help!
