Default Removing Street Glide front fender

Alright, I need some tips and tricks for removing a street glide front fender WITHOUT removing the front wheel. This may seem easy to those that have never attempted it, but its a sum beach. On my 2010 it seems like the factory bent some tabs where the nuts are holding the fender and I can't get any tool in there to bend them back so I can grasp the nut. Anyone have a nifty trick or can recommend a good tool to get this job done?

PS - I don't have a lift/jack, which is why I cant remove the wheel.

Thanks Ya'll!

Your fender bolts do indeed have lock tabs to stop the bolts coming out. There is no easy way to remove the fender without removing the wheel. It can be done but it''l be a pain in the ***. The lock tabs are very soft and not too hard to flatten if you can gain access with a screwdriver or something. Without removing the front wheel though, it's going to be a struggle no matter what. Good luck.

Not only on the 2010, been bending that tab like that for years. I was able to take a long flat blade screwdriver and gently bang on the handle with the tip on the bent part and bend it back. There is a bent tab at both top and bottom where it wraps around the bolt head.

I used a long thin blade screwdriver thru the wheel to bend the tabs a little. I also used an open box end wrench to get on the bolt head where there were no tabs.

I think you found a really good reason to go out and buy a jack.

I took my front fender off with out removing the front wheel but it really was a PITA.You'll need a long, flat head screwdriver, hammer, wrench and a lot of time and patience. If you try it,be careful and don't let the tabs cut you(Don't ask me how I know).

All good ideas. It can be done with the wheel on with some patience and the right screwdriver to bend the tabs back.

Ditto on that and also much easier to not scratch the fender. Or find a friend that has one?

Thanks for all the help guys. Looks like a good portion of my day tomorrow will be fighting with this front fender. I was afraid that it was only going to be the flathead technique. Oh well.

Take the front wheel off and check/service front axel anti-seize lube. As long as you don't apply the brakes with the wheel off, it's a simple re-install.
