for those of you who dont know we use a hybrid material called Impact modified acrylic its not a normal acrylic. It has the good properties of acrylic and the good properties of poly carb.

It costs less for everyone, It lasts longer because it is more uv resistant and it does not scratch as easy as raw polycarb. You can buff it, put rainex on it, its really the best of both worlds. as far as flexibility goes its ok, but ht windshields are formed and tempered so they dont need to flex in the fairing ( with exception of impact from foreign objects.

If I wanted to I could make the poly carb windshields, but I wouldnt be proud of the windshield in the end, and it wouldnt fit the needs of my customers.

good point!

I work with these kinds of plastics every day. I agree with the posters who ask why you want to make them thicker at all.
I really don't thing anyone will be better protected and you add problems like screw length issues and fairing gaps.
If there's any advantage to thicker shields it falls into the very small margin between what we have now and a slightly greater impact resistance. After that margin any shield will fail anyway.
You're going from stopping a sparrow to stopping a robin. After that a turkey is going to smack you in the face either way. (Sorry for the bad pun.)

Shouldn't we be asking you what thicknesses would be best? I figure if you're considering a thickness other than stock there must be some advantage to someone out of it (hopefully the customer) and you'd be telling US why you want to do it. I just noticed another post where you're asking folks in effect, which of your competitor's shields you should duplicate. Why not start experimenting and come up with something of your own?

Why not just run it thought a router and put a rabbit on the bottom edge ,then you can control the thickness on the bottom edge.

its not that we dont have our own ideas, or that we havent already moved in one direction or another on our own, I simply like to hear what others have to say, sometimes its good to have another opinion, its good market research.

I received one of your 8" Ultra shields last week and I was pretty impressed with the fit and finish.
I have a Memphis Shades shield which is very thick , and I thought this would be a good thing , but it may be a bit too thick.
The Memphis shield causes a squeaking sound at idle and fits kinda weird (not just right) like the LRS shield.
Both are formed pretty much the same , but the LRS doesn't squeak like the Memphis shield does.
I would leave it alone because I will probably buy another shield from you before spring......
