regular ovals are a little loud with stock head pipes but a lot louder with true duals. MO's are semi quiet to me I can hear the radio at 80. Cant speak for MO's with stock pipes but Im sure they will be very quiet
Those two mufflers are SO different, they should have given them an entirely different name. As bagman1 mentions, the regular Ovals are a bit loud. Frankly, I feel they're a little "farty" sounding, like a "blat-t-t-t" type of sound. They're noticeably cheaper than the Monster Ovals too. I've grown to really like the MO's I have on my Road Glide. Low and throaty with a little 'something' for ya when you romp on them, yet very pleasant when you're tooling down the road and you actually want to hear the radio. I would agree that you may wish to try to the Monster Rounds. I would have gone that route perhaps if they were available back then. Some guys have little scrapes on the lower rear corners of theirs when they've had heavy loads and/or 2-up when leaning far. Something to think about, though mine don't. If I recall those stories correctly.
Either way, I'd bet you'd be quite pleased with either of the Monster mufflers, MO's or MR's.
Had the Oval slip-ons on my '07 RKC with dresser duals and stock engine. Have the MO's with dresser duals on this one (103 stage II). I rate the MO's waaay better! Much deeper rumble and really bark when you get on it.
Got both of em 07 UC 103 cams Stage II has Oval TD and 08 UC Stage I has Monster Ovals TD, 07 loud and has a bark often it's annoying or may be I'm getting older, 08 throaty but can be loud at times due TD I think. It's very personal thing what you like and it also changes with time, have used so many of em but not going back to any one of em.
I have the regular ovals with true duals, they were on the bike when I bought it as well as Stage 2 103" SE kit. I like them pretty well, I like the looks of them better than the MO's but I can't speak to the sound comparison because I've never owned the MO's. I have been a V&H fan for years. I can still hear my radio at 80-90( I just made a 3 hr run up I-75 last weekend rockin the whole way!) They do have a little rap to them when you get into it but it's a long way from being obnoxious, I had a 95" St 2 BB kit on my 04 Dyna with V&H Longshots and it was way louder than my Ultra is.
Another thing to note, your air intake setup will effect your overall exhaust noise a little too.
Just pulled the trigger on the Monster Ovals minutes ago. Now the wait to receive and install. I wanted the wife to have a bit more pleasant ride and get more enjoyment from the stereo. Plus they look awesome, chrome with black tips. Now to figure out if I need to make a tuning adjustment. The bike is currently set up with the dealer download, K&N breather and cheap Harley slip-ons.
