had my 20,000 mile bike service about a month ago.(did not do the forks)
i noticed a quarter sized oil spot where i park my bike. there is now about a dozen of them? i went to the dealer and they looked at my bike and saw that the shifter lever that goes into the trans was covered in oil. they said i need a new gasket kit.
is this something that should have been noticed at the time of service? is it possible that my fluids were over filled? when i left there i washed the bike. cleaned the area good. its been a week now and no oil spots??? anyone?
Thats the shift shaft seal behind the shift arm.
If it is leaking the tech should have noticed it if he went thru the bike.
I just had mine replaced under warranty. It's about a $400 +/- job at the dealer.
Take a look from underneath on the tranny case.Is the there oil on the case coming from the bottom of the shaft?
I have an 03 EGS and there is a vent line that comes out right in that area that could be the cause of the oil. Mine showed signs of oil after a 600 mile 85 degree day ride. It cleared and has been dry ever since and that was 4 years ago.
its not the vent, the dealer did not say it was the shift arm, i asked about doing the job and all they said was about $30 in gaskets and about 3 hours to take the primary off...so i believe its not the trans????
I had the same type of oil leak. It was transmission fluid coming out of the shifter seal. it started after a 5000 mile trip. Before the trip I had changed out the tranny fluid with Royal Purple synthetic. Before the Royal,I was running Amsoil 75/90 syn. with no leaks. I changed the fluid with dino gear oil. NO MORE Leaks.
30 bucks in gaskets and fluid sounds about right. But it is about 3.5 hours book time for the job. Shift Shaft seal leak and the inner primary has to come off. If u degreased it and are now not having a leak I wouldnt worry about it.
