My 08 SG had a very similar problem, changed the throttle control 32305-08 also it could be 70415-08 as the connectors I hear get messed up. First I'd check the adjusting screw and spring on the end of the TC just to be sure its not worn or loose.
It could be a faulty sensor. However, my 2008 developed a serious problem last year - severe hesitation on the highway as well as difficult idle, all when the bike was hot. The sensor was fine, but a crack in a wire running to the sensor caused the sensor to read the engine temperature as cold, when the bike was hot. Sensor related, but not caused by a faulty sensor. Good luck.
Currently having this repair done. Had the same issues as you do. The stealer is replacing the throttle body and the connectors to it. Must be a well known problem because tech support told the stealer to immediately order those parts. They replacing the '08 connectors with a different design for the '10's & '11's.
Yesterday on the hiway at about 72 MPH I lost all throttle control. The engine ran fine, just wouldn't rev, only idle. I pull off to the shoulder and shut down. It starts up fine, revs fine so I get in gear and start up the shoulder. Same thing happens so I shut down. And wait for ten minutes and try again. It runs fine so I think maybe I shouldn't go up the hiway so I change my ride and all is good.
This evening coming through the Harbor Tunnel the bike spotters like it's running out of gas, it isn't. I get out of the tunnel and I have no throttle control. Shut it down for 5 minutes and it's fine.
Any ideas?
I got gas at the same Shell station both days. I only mention that because the engine acted like it was running out of gas the second time, no warning the first time. Clould it be bad gas? Could the EFI be FUBAR? About 110 miles between instances. Sometimes after start up the engine icon lights up but them goes out. No code numbers show in the odometer.
Any ideas before I take it to a dealer tomorrow?
Thanks.
I find it unlikely that the throttle by wire itself is the cause as it is a redundant system. In addition your bike isn't throwing any codes, which would happen if it were the TBW.
I suspect there is a problem in your throttle body or fuel injection.
that engine icon coming back on then going off after start up means u have a stored code. theres a thread in here that give instruction for pulling it up and has a list of what the codes mean. in my case it only said loss of idol control(wich i new ) but didnt tell me what caused it dealer plugged it in and fixed in 20 minutes.
Mine does it fairly regularly. Dealer cant find anything wrong. Its great fun. I am waiting till I get run over by an 18 wheeler and then I am gonna sue.
