have a set of wind deflectors on my 09 roadie. took it in for new wheels and brakes and had the tank recall done. read hear about how some guys modified the deflectors to work with the recalled tank mounts. does anybody know the procedure? thanks

First, mine didn't need the fix but I've sure read a lot of replies from others that did so here goes...

IIRC, there are several solutions Sparky and they range all the way from...

....just sniping off the upper plastic spring-clamps and let the updraft hold the upper section back since that will happen anyway...

...to...

...replacing the tank mounting bolts with longer ones and adding a spacer for the upper spring-clamps to use.

However, the one I think was the best compromise was to snip off the top clips, carve a small hole in that area with a sharp knife (whatever) and use a cheap zip-tie instead of the upper spring-clamps.

ETA: Speaking of that "updraft", my experience is that we're riding a motorcycle and there absolutely will still be the wind. However, the wind that is forced downward by the fairing in that region and then back upward by the front of the tank is now redirected closer to the backside of the fairing and is no longer blasting you in the face. I really like mine. The downside for me - rain. More of any water droplets now settle on inside of the fairing. No big deal from my perspective though. I'd rather see better and the droplets aren't settling on glasses/goggles (whatever) as much now.
