I purchased a new 10 Ultra Classic had the 103BB and 255 cams done before I picked it up. Great response from throttle.
Traded an 08 RK with just a Stage 1 done on it. Not even close. RK seemed dead compared to the Ultra and warranty still good.
Great for two up. Hills, passing no problem with power or delay in response.
A little over $2K if memory serves.

Default Wolfgang Grasser

Get ahold of Wolfgang in Bay City Tx. Mutant motors. Will treat you right, and work with your available resources.

Don't rush. Shop ur parts, maybe hold off. Little time investment is worth it.

Short money, short patience=dissatisfied. You'll be unhappy, and wanting to dig back into it. Speaking from experience. Flushed about $1700 on my orig. build. Taking it slow, cherry picking parts, and going to get what I orig. Wanted for $2700-$3000.

Just sayin', better to bide your time and do it right. Measure twice, cut once.

What do you think of this set up for now until I go 103" (and after) in terms of torque? You're not unhappy with your setup from a torque standpoint, it doesn't sound like. BUB doesn't make a 1.75" crossover header like Jackpot, and I'd like to stick with BUB...TDs do sound awesome! 2) Corrected compression around 9.2 and CCP around 190. 9.2 compression sounds kinda low (I guess I might be referring to static compression?) All I know is I read when people have SE255 cams and too high compression, they got problems, Baby. Can you elaborate on the technicals some more about the relationship between corrected compression and CCP?

Thanks for all your help, Man.

John
Thanks for the kind words, John. I've never had any hands on experience with the BUB headers you're talking about, so I can't even hazard a guess. I've got the old BUB/Rinehart true duals on my bike with the stepped headers and am very happy with them. In spite of the theory that true duals will result in a loss of low rpm torque, I've not found that to be true at all.

Here's a dyno chart that another forum member posted that shows the difference between the stock headers and V&H true dual headers on a 08 Road King. He kept the same slip ons, the only difference was the headers. There's no loss of torque at any rpm.

I also have a friend who runs the Rinehart true duals on his CVO bike, and he gained about 11 hp and torque across the band, with no loss of torque at any rpm.

There are lots of guys with the 255s in their 96s and 103s. Most of them seem very happy with the choice. I'd put them in a 96 without hesitation. With the biger displacement and slightly higher compression in the 103, I feel that there are other cams that will return more performance than the 255s. The Woods may be the cam to beat for the 103s now. The SE204s I've got in my bike are very similar to the Woods 6, and I'm also using the 1.725 rockers for a bit more lift.

I'm going to use Mathews Performance Products to do my porting when I get to it, they do a 1.90 valve street porting job for $699 and Mathews was taught how to port heads by Joe Mondello and you can't get much better than that.
Watch out for the super cheap head jobs, I've had personal messages from some of the other members here that have used them and where NOT happy with the out come. I won't mention any names but it appears you get what you pay for when it comes performance head porting and valve jobs.

That is a fact, and any of the reputable head builders will tell you they get a lot of business just fixing what another shop did poorly.

To the guy's that really know what they are talking about here: I'm guessing that most/all of these builds still require 93 octane fuel? That around here is now 10% ethanol. There is a possibility of 15% ethanol becoming a reality. How will that effect all these builds?

It all depends on the compression ,that the new build, has. Keep close to the stock compression and not go wild with timing and you will mostly be fine with running the same fuel that you run with a stock motor.

Default Stg II and 255 cams

In the winter many dealers run specials on the kit to keep the shop busy. 255 are great torque cams. Personally I don't like the 255 they have too high CCP and some have hot start problems and if you don't cut back timing they can ping with cheap gas.

Just my opinion many love them The 204 can get you close without problems.

I went with a GMR 107, Stage 3 CNC heads 9:8 compression, 182 CCP, and andrews 54 cam never used had to use the compression release.. Great torque down low hit 100 TQ at 2600 high was 115 and 108 Hp and and I have run it on regular. Total cost @5K with labor
