Electra Glide Air Temp Gauge?????

Electra Glide Air Temp Gauge?????
Okay - Maybe it's been asked before but what is the purpose of the air temp gauge on an Electra Glide??? Is it just a place holder to get you to buy a gauge that really give you some usefull information?? What could they have been thinking? I was beautiful riding weather in the northeast today - do I really need to know that it is between 85 and 115 degrees next to my engine??? What do you guys think is the most logical thing to put in there - Every time I look at it I get more pissed off - There is no way I can keep it in there - what's a good replacement?

Put an oil temp gauge or the compass there. The air temp is junk. Mine says it is 100 when I'm riding in my leather jacket.

I will eventually do this as well...compass on one side, oil temp on the other.

I also had an oil temp guage put in. Although with our typical northwest weather (cool and rain...), and the oil cooler that I also installed, I probably don't need that either. Besides my wife won't ride if the temp is lower than 50 degrees and I lie often...the guage might out me.

OUtside air tell you nada about the motor! Got to Wally's Cycle World and get an oil temp guage...fits right in, three wires, five min. install!

I have a 04 Road Glide, I bought as a factory demo. My air temp gage seems to work great for me, and has always been pretty accurate. Maybe the dealer did something different to it????
