I'm planning on a Fat Bob to add to the garage. The present economy is pushing the purchase date back, but I've ridden one and it was a gas. I have a spot in the garage for a third bike, might as well fill it.
I rode a touring bike for 10 years then traded for a new Wideglide.I put some 16 inch apes on it and it was a blast around town and short country rides. The deciding factor was a 2000 mile road trip.Lack of storage, lack of wind protection and I was ready to trade when I got back from my trip. I now have a 2010 Ultra Classic and after 2500 miles I'm loving it with one exception. That exception is the heat on the right hand side of the exhaust. It's a shame people are having to spend big bucks to get rid of the heat.
I have both, like both, teh Dyna is an under rated platform in my opinion, teh 09 FXDC rides just as good as my old 07 RKC. I also have the 09 Ultra which is a Eldorado compared to either the RKC or FXDC, but it is built for that. I always say that if I git a FXDC as a first bike instead of the RKC it would have been hard to justify the move to the RKC, teh Ultra is different though, I like the comforts on cross country trip. The RKC and FXDC can easily do 1000 mile day trips but the Ultra can easily do many 1000 mile day tips consecutivley.
Interesting, you dont see the reverse trade in too much on this forum. Good luck with your dyna. I love the street bob. Due to back issues I will stick to my SG though.
Wow.. really ? Did you already do this ? I really really would sit down & think this through. I say this not because of the bikes but the trade in for a SG vs a Dyna thats a hit down the road I would rather not take. I went from a Dyna Superglide to my Ultra Classic & nothing beats hard bags & a fairing when the weather goes to crap you can still ride.
Best of luck & I would really wouldn't do this. There is a reason why its rare you hear about stepping back down. Hell the best route would be a 1200 sporty if your looking for a bar hopper in town ride. I know my local dealers are damn near giving them away.
