I think I paid about $130 for mine. I have had three low back surgeries and I wouldn't,can't ride without one. Before I had my RG I had a VTX and the 1st thing I did was a $1200 Ultimate seat.I took it off before I traded it in and just the ride from the house to the dealer without the backrest had me hurting so bad that I wouldn't buy the new bike without a backrest. Buy one,you won't be sorry.
I am 6-2 and my non-adjustable one sometimes makes me feel like I am pushed forward also. But, my crappy back appreciates the support. (I slump pretty bad without the back rest). I would be afraid to try to go very far without some kind of back support.
Oooooh how I love the backrest. Prior to having one, I could ride 3 or 4 hr. before the soreness set in. I recently rode from Key West to Valdosta, Ga. before stopping for the night and only then realized I was not sore. It is important that the backrest fits you. I have an 05 ultra and my ht. is 5'-11''. I have the HD adjustable, bought it off of e-bay. Saved a lot. If your style riding is short distance, IMO....... no I would still have one.
Will the backrest move you forward a bit? Right now on my VTX I have a Mustang seat with NO backrest other than the passenger pillion that actually gives me a lot of support and makes me sit more straight up. On the Road Kings I have sat on, the stock setup I feel like I am reaching for the bars at 5'10 and that is with the new 2011 seat. Wondering if a backrest will help a little bit until I swap out the bars

It helped me enough that I cancelled my plans for new bars.
