Default How to Get HD Installation Instructions in pdf

A member shared with me a technique for securing HD installation instructions for accessories shown on HD's website that don't have a pdf link.

It's very simple. Just go to HD's website and click on any pdf instruction link for any accessory (or copy and paste the address for an HD accessory instruction sheet you already have). You'll get a web address for that pdf file and it will include a "J_ _ _ _ _ " designation towards the end of the address. Revise that address by removing the five numbers of that address and replace it with the five numbers from the installation instruction sheet you need, and click "ENTER."

Obviously, you'll need the "J" number for the instruction sheet you want, but you can request that J number on HDF and a helpful member can supply it to you--much easier than needing the instruction sheet and requesting that it be faxed or scanned/emailed to you by a member.

My brief experience with this has been mostly good; once or twice the pdf file hasn't shown up even with the correct J number for the accessory I'm interested in. But, hey, even if it's not 100% effective, it may be helpful until such time as HD consistently supplies the pdf files for the accessories on its website P&A catalog.

Suggestion: when you install an accessory and post about it, include the J number from the instructions so others can look at it (assuming its available on line). The instructions can be helpful in a service manual way (I know I used HD's instructions for installing aftermarket parts, e.g. handlebar controls), for the service parts listed in the kit, and for determining if the project is something the reader is interested in taking on, among other reasons.

Default An Example

Here's an example:

The HD website shows the Boom Audio Amplifier, but doesn't provide pdf link for the installation instructions:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

And here are the instructions for that kit in pdf using the J number in the address:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J03651.pdf

The J number in the example is: J03651 and you'll see it on the instruction sheet below the B&S logo/Instructions line.

Nice tip. Been fortunate to have had all the instructions included so far but I'm sure that time will come and most likely can get the info now.
Thanks Pingman

Cool. Good way to do it. I just use google and search function using the p/n and pdf:
67932-11 pdf and google usually finds it on the harley site for me.

Any time I'm looking for instruction for a certain item I go to google, type in the part no. followed by the word instructions and I usually find them.
