Lol...." Craig'sList is a waste of time" That has got to be the worst marketing advice I have ever heard anyone give.
Why would you not count on craig's list?
Because it's free?
Maybe because it potentially reaches Millions more people than cycle trader?
Seriously, you can try cycle trader but I imagine most people buying those ( 60 and up demographic exluded) are combing Craig's list as well.
Another option that I think would be more bang for your buck if your itching to spend money is Ebay Motors.
Don't discount the classified ads on MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter Either.
Photos, year, make, model, mileage, any customizations and a Price will also make people much more likely to respond to your classified add.

#2 post said "CL is probably a waste of time."
I have had good luck with Craigslist. There are dumb buyers everywhere, no matter what the medium is.
eBay will get you more action. If your bike is unique or rare, you may catch a bidding war near the end of the auction. I sold my '87 FLHT for more than my Buy It Now price due to a last minute bidding war. The dude drove 600 miles to pick it up.

I think you should make flyers and give them to friends, make a digital version for e-mail as well as use Craigslist and Cycletrader. However, you have to market your ride. Short and descriptive text will help. Also, make sure your ride is really, really clean. When I sold my Sportster I marketed it to new riders (great first bike, easy to start)and listed the MPG.
