Not legal by any means but never stopped yet by the police even when they come up behind me. When you press the brake, it just flashes, never goes to constant on. Tour pak has brake lights so I'm thinking that's why I haven't been stopped. Been asked many times where I got it because it attracts attention when going down the road, not just when stopping.
I myself do not like them. I noticed when riding in a group and following one, it seems annoying and makes me wonder if the guy is breaking hard or easy, the damn light is flashing! This is especially true when approaching a stop light and the rider applies the brake several times as he is slowing down. The flashing light vs on solid give me no idea on how hard he is braking.
But again that is just me.
I kinda missed your point on this one. Without anything, brake lights do not tell whether you are applying brakes hard or soft??????? I am fixing to install some from custom dynamics. You can set it to 1 strobe when you hit the brakes, it grabs somebodies attention.
Mine flash three times. Run Brake Trun module fromKury. If I had to ride behind a bike that flasked all the time, I'd be looking for a new ride partner.

A buddy of mine has that rotating taillight. Just about hypnotized me when I was following him. I couldn't take my eyes off it.

I agree. Steve's flash continuously both while braking and not. Of course they're brighter when he's braking. As far as finding a new riding buddy... he rides too fast for me anyway <g>. Call me boring, I don't speed. I'm there to relax and aside from my mishap in OKC in Sept I have.
Was in Rapid city in Sept and noticed several signs either on the way up or back (don't remember) saying 'Gear Braking Prohibited'. Interesting... there's a history to that statement.
I agree with those who say flashing and/or rotating at all times is too much, even though I can sympathize with the idea behind the feature, but I have and like the type that modulate only when braking. Twenty years ago I was rear-ended on a MC and am paranoid to this day. The Kury module (#4859) is a good solution, IMO, pulsating four times when the brakes are first applied, then constant. Adding a brighter LED taillight helped too, and I now feel like I'm seen from the rear, although I don't take it for granted and keep my eye in my mirrors especially when stopped in traffic.
I also believe in modulating headlights, and feel this is the most important way to call attention to your presence since 75% or more of all MC accidents are frontal.
I had the run/brake light/turn signal kit from Kuryakyn, it would flash 3 times when brakes were applied. I recently purchased hyperlights, they sit on either side of the license plate and act like run/brake light kit. I purchased the kit that is only a break light so it will only come on when the brakes are applied. I figured it would be a better attention getter. I then traded a guy in the club his Harley run/brake/turn signal kit for my Kuryakyn kit. I didn't want too many lights flashing in the back.
Being a cop, I wouldn't ticket s guy who was trying to bring more attention to himself. Unless of course he was being a douche and was trying to look like a cop bike.
I'm with iclick. I have both the modulating tail light and headlight. The headlight is most important but I also love the tail light when I need to brake suddenly on the L.A. freeways where (when we're moving of course) those cagers doing 80 behind us can see us slowing down.
