Thanks for all the ideas. I will prob go with something you can see from the rear so I don't get hassled about it.

I'll get an horizontal plate and mount it behind the primary, using the lower swingarm bolt.

+1 on the left downtube. NYS requires it to be visible on the LF of the bike, most dealers put it on the L slider which screws up the look of a chromed or blacked out slider. Downtube plate has a hidden screw which results in destroying the inspection sticker to get to it. No hassle with that set up here in the Great State of NY for over 5 years.

Mine 'accidentally' fell off while washing the bike, and is in my TP.
