FYI....... I had washed my bike and then went over to Dirty Harry's the other night during Bikeoctoberfest. I tell you that I washed my bike because I had removed the saddle to wash and I know I replaced the security screw that holds it on. After coming home, I removed some stuff from the Tour Pak and noted the saddle not sitting right, thats when I noted that the saddle screw was missing along with the fender "nut", all that was left was a small scratch that looks like a screw driver mark. I was parked in the rear lot behind the old Corbin and was only there from 6 PM to 830 PM. Saddle was a 1000.00 heated with riders backrest. I am so happy that they didn't get my saddle, but I will never park there again. This time I am only out a few dollars, I hope my luck continues.
You can use one of those "secure" screws, but if you don't want to wait, go to Walmart and buy a pack of these fasteners:
They are a couple of bucks, you can find them in the automotive accessories section, with all the pimp mirrors and ashtreys and trim and bling. The seat screw is standard thread, 1/4X20, 1/2 in. long. These ones are a little too long, so wrap the head of a screw in a rag, hold it with vicegrips and cut the stem at 1/2" with a hacksaw:
Clean up the threads with a triangular file, and install the screw with a couple of drops of Blue Loctite (Walmart too) and you will be golden. Just don't loose the lil' wrench, lol.
i can stand people that got steal from folks , damn idiots. i parked my ride out front of work where people clock in and out and got a light scratch on rear fender where some just had to rub it prob with a ring on finger. why do they got to touch my damn bike. i see someone touch it again im gona touch them.
great info, I have heard so many horror stories similar to yours, and I truly dont understand it... like others have said, dont touch my stuff and definately dont steal it! I would have to do more than hang the thief by his nuts, I would have to shoot him in the head!
Yeh, after the screw is gone it doesn't take much to lift the seat off and run...
Can't see them going to the effort of removing the screw and fender nut, then runnin off without takin the seat. But, I guess dumber things have happened...
