For those concerned posters about materialism. First I never had a high paying job. In fact I worked some min. wage jobs. I was a security guard. I worked at a minimart and I worked for small town maintenance work.
But what I did have was a commitment to saving until I could pay for something and then only after my saving goals for retirement were also covered.
I worked more than one job. I worked nights, weekends and holidays when no one else wanted to.
I am 70 and I retired at 62. I am doing the things that I wanted to do for retirement. If earning something by setting goals is materialism so what.
Instead shooting the messenger you should think about the message. The message is to have a budget as soon as you start your working life and set the goals to achieve it. To be disciplined with you finances so that you, you family and your retirement is safe and secure.
I have a suggestion to you. To me borrowing to have an luxury item before your savings goal in having an 9 month emergency fund and your retirement funded each and every pay check is met, that is what materialism is. It is to put stuff ahead of the important things in life.
To the one that said "well said." Really! So you support immature acts of financial ruin.

Who are you to be our "messenger". I got news for you pal, most everybody here does live on a budget. And for most of us, our Harley payment is part of our budget. You say you're not materialistic yet you come here and basically try to brag to teh board about your 5 bikes (you've never had to borrow on) and your 9 months emergency fund you have in the bank. Then you preach about being responcible yet you anly carry state minimum insurance on them. Get into an accident and put someone in the hospital and see how far that insuarnce gets you. You'll burn through your 9 months emergency fund without a lawyer awfully fast. My FULL coverage insuarance 500,000 / 500,000 runs me 31 bucks a month through progressive. My trucks been paid off for 5 years and I still carry full coverage on it, to me it would be irresponcible not to. Not just for the replacement value on the truck, but in case I get hit by an uninsured / underinsured (like you) motorist my and my passenges medical will be covered and I won't have to spend months in court.
I ain't had much formal education, but somethin don't sound right here in river city. Most of the people I know who had to work 3 jobs, did it just to make ends meet and had no money for savings. Maybe ih4x4 is not speakin with forked tongue. If I worked as hard as he did to have things paid for and be comfortable with his savings, I sure wouldn't put a wheel over the curb without full coverage on my boots not to mention my bike. (all 5 of them)
The HD manuals are pretty good but they reference tools and HD part numbers for these tools which are not available for sale to the public.
Not to worry though. They are available from other sources on the internet.
