Ok all of this advice is very good and it IS helping me figure out which way I want to go. I know that marine grade is the way I want cuz I do cross country trips where weather will get ya. I am new on here and trying to figure out how to search the threads to find the guys that have done the kind of install I am looking to do. Any advice on how to find them?

Are you anywhere near Chicago? If so you can come a check my setup if you like: 2 kappas 6.5, 2 Kappa 6x8 2 pops 6x9 (gotta be in Chicago for these) 1 fosgate 400 4 chan. 1 alpine pdx 4.100. Ive heard hog tunes, boom all that other stuff no where near mine. I was at the dealer the other day the owner was real cool. He wanted me to hear his boom system said it was the best he ever heard and the amp goes under his tour pack. He played if for me and since im a nice guy I told him it sounded good. Still he said that it probably sounded better than mine. So I turned mine on he put his head down and walked back in. anyway it all what you want and how you want it to sound. Im gonna redo mine over the winter but your more than welcome to check it out if your near. Maybe ill take a video of it and put it on the site

Be careful about "marine grade"! All this means is that the internal circuit boards are coated to withstand a salt water environment. They are not warranted against water damage and will short out if wet. The marine radios that are waterproof are too big to fit your fairing. My best advice concerning your head unit is to leave the factory radio in. Send it in and get the preamp jacks installed if you want, but use it.
