Something is going wrong with my 2001 EGC with the Italian fuel injection system. It turns over way too long before it fires up. 5, 6, 7 seconds sometimes. It does this when it's cold. When it's warmed up, it fires up normally. It started out slowly and has been getting progressevely worse. I initially suspected one of the many sensors it has but since there is a funny noise coming from the fuel tank during the pressureizing(sp?) process, I'm not so sure. Does anyone have any suggestions of what this might be so I can rectify it before it won't start at all? Thanks, Folks.
How old is your battery? Have you changed out your fuel filter yet? What level of gas is in the tank when this happens (fuel lines prone to pinholes)?
The battery is 3 yrs old and turns over strong. I have not changed the fuel filter, but wouldn't it do the same thing hot or cold? It fires right up when it's warm. The strange noise, (I cannot describe it because I have never heard anything like it before), is there no matter the level of gas in the tank. It's just louder when the level is low. I want to do this myself, but don't know where to start.
Mine was similar, not quite 6 seconds but cranked a bit 2 long. Changed filter, pump, and regulator plus battery and now starts as soon as i hit the starter, warm or cold.

Alright, a place to start. How much were the filter, pump and regulator? These things I will replace. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it very much.
I would replace all but the fuel pump assembly and see how it works. Should have enough miles on it anyway that it is probably due for a fuel filter change.

Thanks dawg, I appreciate the prices and part numbers. I agree, I will save the pump assembly for last. I've got 70,000 miles on it so a new filter surely wouldn't hurt.
My 10 is doing the same thing, just started about a week ago. I have a little over 7000 miles on it, so I don't think its the filter yet. I'll take it to the dealer to see what they think, that should be fun.
