Default idle cable

What's the process for replacing the idle cable on an 02 rkc? has to be removed to route/install the cable.

Thanks for any assistance.

Yes you do have to remove the old one first.
I found it easier to remove the gas tank first, better visabilty.
I would check the throttle cable at the ball end at the grip.
I suggest getting a service manual for the proper adjustments.

I just replaced mine this past weekend, but I have an Electra Glide so the procedure is a little different. You'll need to do a partial removal of the gas tank which is fairly easy. Taking the handlebar controls and throttle apart is a little tricky, though. The best thing you can do is get the service manual for your motorcycle.

Also becareful not to lose the brass ferrel (spelling) when changing out the cable end in the cover at the handle bars. Check play when done. And a manual. Good luck.

Just a suggestion: If you have any possible future plans that might require removing the tank again take the time now to add the Colder quick disconnect to the cross over fuel line. It's a great easy addition and it makes removing the tank a breeze. Just a suggestion.

There are other sources of quick disconnects than Colder but they do make a quality product.

I just replaced both cables on my '03 RKC and I did the "partial" remove of the tank and it worked fine. It is just so you can access the one adel clamp that is riveted to the frame under the tank.
