tried using the heel shifter and so far, I don't really care for it.
How many actually use the heel shifter?

Why not?

I use it because I keep the 'toe" shifter as low as possible to allow me more room on the foot board.

There's really no reason NOT to use the heel shifter IMHO.

When I first got my SG, I hated the heel shifter. Almost dropped the bike a few times because of it. My pant leg would get caught on it as I rode and when I stopped, I would crap myself as I try to wiggle my left foot lose. I was going to remove it when I decided to try adjusting it. The heel and toe shifter were a little to high for me. After readjusting both, I love it and use it all the time.

If you are not happy with it, try a minor adjustment.
