Default Gear storage

I just finished a project to get my touring gear out of the way when I have my Ultra Limited stripped down. A buddy of mine saw it and really liked it and told me I should post it for others to see. So here you go.

I had an extra set of 4-point docking hardware what I mounted on some 2x4 stock to hold my Tour Pak. Second seat hangs below that. Back rest and windshields are above. I made holders for my keys for both bikes and my helmet and the wife's. The 2 bike trickle charger is on the back side.

Yeah, I can definitely see how in some scenarios having the keys right next to the bike might put you at more risk. I'm not personally worried about it in my scenario (given my neighborhood, the way my property is laid out, etc), and I'm not generally much of a believer in keys as protection against theft, particularly for motorcycles, so I opt for convenience.

I mean, hey, if you can make it past my alarm system and my three dogs and into my garage, and you're immune to double-ought buckshot, but you're not smart enough to steal my bike *without* the keys, then I guess having the keys right there will make your job easier.

Seriously, if some degenerate has gotten that far and is in my garage and thinks he needs the keys, I'd rather have them right there than have him decide to kick in the door looking for them (especially if I'm not home).

Now driving away without the keys is something I do worry about. I have the fobs for both of my bikes in my jacket and they never come out (as my backup).

Nice Job.
As my garage is used by the wife and kids....I cannot have anything at easy reach.
I like my stuff up high. So nobody can brush into them.

Are your hinges and latches painted black or powercoated? Look nice.

As to the keys....another thing you might remember, your bike will start with the keys hanging there and close to the bike. Drive somewhere with out taking your keys and shut it off, well how you have set the code to start it without the keys. Yes, go ahead and ask me how I know about this.
