Default Gerbing's Users...I Have Questions...

Looking to purchase some heated gear.
I'm wondering who has what?
What you purchased that you think was overkill?
Those with jacket liners, do you wish you had gotten the vests, instead?
Those with vest liners, do you wish you had gotten the jackets, instead?
How many of you purchased gloves and wish you had gotten the liners?
How many of you purchased liners and wish you had gotten the gloves?
Do any of you use the shoe liners?

Post the pieces you have...your opinion of those pieces...what you think you could have done without...and your experience with Gerbing's Customer Service.

Thanks!

Wifey & I have vest & gloves. The fees times a year it's cold enough for them, they are GREAT!

Do not underestimate the value (need) of the thermostat!!!!!

We had Widder vests and my wife had sleeves. We just got Gerbing/Harley jacket liners, and with our FXRG leather jackets is all we need. And as stated by the earlier post the thermostst is very nice.

Gerbin jacket liner and G3 gloves.

I hate the bulky gauntlet style gloves and only wore them once. I find that if I keep my core temp up with the jacket liner, that's all I need. My hands are fine with only a pair of thinsulate line elkskin gloves.

I ride an Electra Glide so my hands are protected from the windblast.

I have the jacket liner and love it. Adjusting the thermosat is the key. The jacket was more than enough to keep me warm during most rides. I could see value in dual controls and adding soles and gloves for longer rides. Damn it's that time of year. I'm not sure what part I'll order next. Keeping the core of your body warm allows for the body to keep the fingers and feet warm.

G3 gloves and a jacket liner. Good down into the teens.

I have the gloves and liner, and I don't think other heated items are necessary for me. These two work well enough together to make your whole body warmer, especially when you have lowers installed.

Those with jacket liners, do you wish you had gotten the vests, instead?
Definitely not. The liner can double as a non-heated liner or even a light jacket, and has the wiring already in place in the sleeves for gloves which tuck into a pocket at the wrists when not needed. If you have a vest and want to use gloves you'll need to run the wires up the jacket sleeve for every use. Not a big deal, perhaps, but a hassle you won't have with the liner. Also, having the heating element in the arms is a help.

How many of you purchased gloves and wish you had gotten the liners?
I have both and if I had to do without one I would nix the liner, as my hands are the most vulnerable area in the cold.

I have the Gerbing Classic gloves, and I would recommend the G3 because they are less bulky and more flexible. I'm not sure if the Classics are even sold anymore, though, as I don't see them on the Gerbing site. I also have the HD liner, which is made by Gerbing, and if you buy from Chicago you'll probably find them the cheapest you can buy anywhere under either logo. I like both and would not want to do without either, but if I had to pick one I would choose the gloves, as my hands are the most vulnerable area to cold.

A controller is a must, IMO. Ideally the dual controller is the best option for this setup (gloves and liner), but I already had the single controller and continue to use it with a "Y" adapter. With this setup the liner heats up more than the gloves, especially around the neck area, but I wear a small leather neck scarf between the jacket and liner to keep the heat down in that location. As with the liner, you'll probably find the HD-branded controllers cheaper at Chicago than you can buy the Gerbing variant for even at discount on-line stores, and it's the same product with an HD logo. In addition, you also get the pouch with belt clip that is a $10 option with the Gerbing controller.

When I bought my liner two years ago the first one was defective with a short in the glove wiring. The second one lasted a bit longer but had to be replaced a year later, also for frequently blowing fuses, so I'm on my third one. So far so good with it, and it survived a trip to AR a month ago. This "Nanowire" or "Microwire" design was new back in '08 and only the HD liners had it at the time. Both use this design now and I presume they have improved its reliability by this time. Gerbing customer service has been excellent and have serviced the HD liner twice without any issues. Keep in mind that HD warrants their heated items for one year, but Gerbing covers theirs and the HD-branded items for life, so you're covered regardless of which logo is on the item.

Chicago had the best prices on both the liner and controller, better than Zanotti's by about 10%, IIRC.

I have Gerbing gloves, a vest liner, long sleeved liner, Pants, even the heated socks. I power them using the dual controller. The vest is new using the nano technology, but I have had the other pieces for nearly 10 years, and they still work great. I would honestly say all I really every needed was the jacket liners.. I found the other pieces to mostly be overkill here in the pacific northwest. One of the great features that I like about the liners is That I can wear them under a light jacket and stay toasty warm. I know it not safety smart wearing a light jacket, but sometimes comfort wins out and I choose to wear my long sleeve liner under a water resistant windbreaker and stay completely warm and dry.
Anyway, I always recommend heated gear to friends, playing the tough guy role freezing my *** off is for the birds, at my age its all about the comfort and enjoyment. Gerbing keeps me riding year round.......

I just bought the liner and am looking at the G3 gloves. This weekend a dealer told us that the older G3 gloves did not have the same resistance as the jacket and would not get as hot. The new microwire G3 have the same as the liner now and if you do not use the dual controller you are going to cook your hands. Just fyi
