was wondering if anyone can post which cams they put in during their 103 builds and the reason why they picked that specific cam....
looking at doing a 103 build this winter and would like a cam that pulls through the first 4 gears like a horse then gives me 5th and 6th gear back like a tourer...
is there such a animal..............one guy I talked to was all over the andrews 26g cam.....
don't need to get the front wheel off the ground...just some nice yank going up through the first 4 gears.............
dyno numbers would be great also......thinking about going with the 2 into 1 vance and hines pro pipe also.........
thanks for all the help.................just don't want to regret my next move and all the dollars spent...................
Using Mackie 575's and pulled out SE 251's on my 2008 103". Like the Mackie camset much better, only gained a few hp and tq but the throttle response is better.

I'm using SE204 cams along with SE high ratio rocker (1.725). Tuning it with a PCV with autotune, so don't know (and don't really care) what the dyno would show. The bike pulls good right off idle though, and is very strong through the mid range. Don't feel like I'm waiting for the cams to check in.
07, it sounds like you and I have the same goals. I researched many different cams over several months. You pick the cam and I'll show you numerous good, and bad reports. Frankly, when it comes to HP, there is little difference. I felt like most cams produced around 8 HP. At best you might see another 2 or 3 HP changing cams. But the drivability (That 6th gear you mention was huge to me because it was worthless in my stock 96" engine), fuel economy and additional HP and TQ were very important to me. If you only want to change the cams then I don't have a clue. My build was a package and I used the Andrews 54H cams. These are now being pushed by several builders. I also did the street port by BigBoyz, bumped the compression to 9.8 to 1, had a good tune with SERT and ran true duals. 96 HP and 120 TQ. I just traded that bike last week on a new CVO SG. Yesterday I ordered another set of the 54H's to put in my CVO Fat Bob and when my 2011CVO comes in in Feb., I plan on buying a third set of 54's. You might want to look at this also. Good luck. http://www.fullsac.com/sleeper-kit-96-stage2.html
Forgot to mention I had the 26G's in my 02 RKC but that was an 88 that I took to 95. Again, I did a whole package and those cams worked for me. 103 is a bit bigger and my uneducated opinion is you would like a bigger cam better for the 103.

I went with the HD Stage II Kit with the SE 255 cams. Read my sig. My bike pulls like a freight train to 5000 rpm. The 2 into 1 Pipe will really help on the bottom end. The cam thing has been beat to death and I honestly cannot say if there is a huge difference at the end of the day of between the different manufactures. A gear drive cam set could possibly be an advantage over the chain drive. To be honest I used all HD parts for 2 reasons. 1: I worked for a HD dealership at the time so parts and labor was discounted. 2: The dealership would honor the factory warranty if I had any problems. I would also suggest compression releases. I went with the SE heads with the automatic comp releases. Performance wise the SE heads did not make a huge difference in HP or Torque but they sure sound nice.
