Default Tire disposal fee?

I'm not complaining because I'm getting a good deal on a set of OEM tire from Chicago H-D for my '09 Ultra Classic but I was wondering about a $9 tire disposal fee that Harley charges when they are not the one that will be mounting or getting rid of the tire.

It's been some time since I bought a set of tires. I sure don't remember paying a tire disposal fee.

Here in S.C, the state mandates a charge to help pay for the cost of recycling or getting rid of the tires. They have the tire seller collect the money because it's easier for the state to track and the fee only gets paid one time. It's the same for car, motorcycle or other tires. Have you noticed this fee when you bought tires for your cage? SC also imposes a battery fee and a used oil fee.

These disposal fees are becoming very common. Like bubba said it goes to recycling or disposing, rather than just dumping in a land fill..

Good grief, just take the tire home and avoid the fee. They make great tire swings and if disposed of in recyclable containers will be recycled, and you pay no fee.

That's what I thought, too, that $9 is way high. In PA I pay a maximum of $2 per tire, car or motorcycle. I know that in PA at least, the local Wal-Mart takes them for no more than $2 each.

You said OEM tire, that's the reason for the $9 fee. It probably says Harley Davidson on the tire. If it said Dunlop it would be $3

Yes I will. Maybe not immediately but shortly afterwards.

I understand what tire disposal fees are for. If it's only a state requirement, and I purchase the tires out of state, how does the state I live in benefit. That was my only point.
