Chrome Shift Linkage
Been thinking about changing to a chrome shift linkage. Looking at the dealership the other day and I see that there are linkage covers that cost a lot less. Anybody try one of these? How does is look installed - and does it rattle or anything? Just wondering. . .
get rid of the stock linkage b4 it breaks...get one with heim joint ends, or just get the S.S. heim joints from Mcmaster-Carr, Grainger, or other places listed on this forum(do a search)...
i found deals on ebay b4...

Stock will come apart some day for sure if you ride a lot, covering it is cheap but plan on replacing it. Real one last you for ever but stock you might have change few times if you plan to keep your bike for a while. If you decide to use cover make sure you keep some zip ties in saddle bag just in case.
+1 on replacing the entire linkage as the joint on the stock model is the weak point.
HD makes a plain chrome with heim joints or, for a lot more dollars, some trick ones by HD and others.

Bingo. do go with the Chrome link with the heim joints. more loot for sure but you'll be plenty glad when you dont have to reach down, burn your hand to shift when the stock crap peters out. Ask me how I know!!!

Just what I need to ponder...the compensator failure dreams weren't bad enough...
However, I went for this HD part, as it matches my shifter and brake lever:
In case anyone is interested, I purchased the shifter rod ends (heim joint) from Zanotti's for $16.83 for 2ea. HD Part #33871-85B. They work great.
