Funny Chit posted here, I am born, raised and still live in CT. I am a new rider and always wear a helmet, I have rode with out one a few times and I feel naked with out it. IMHO each to their own wear one or do not it does not bother me I only concern myself with my well being we are all adults. I feel no need to tell others what they should and should not do. It does shock me that this state does not have a law, they have a law for just about everything and a tax for everything.

I finally found a helmet that fits good. I even wear it in my truck.
but seriously... as a former drag racer, we got used to wearing them. I like the anonymity my 3/4 with smoked shield gives me. I don't wear it on short 3-4- mile rides to the store though.

Freedom is the name of the game. But it gripes my *** that some riders believe that just because they wear helmits that everyone should be required to. They are the type that want to take others freedoms and dont have enough brains to realize that someone out there would like to take thier freedoms. Yes among other things there are people that think motocycles should be outlawed. And there are people that live in cities that dont own cars and therefore think cars should be outlawed. I could go on and on with this so just think about it before you think about taking others freedoms.

Is it a freedom thing, a macho thing ( but the female passengers don't wear them either), or just stupidity?

Who the hell you calling stupid? In America we don't need the government to tell us to wear stuff the Japs sell to us. Just for your information most states without helmet laws have better accident to fatality ratios than states who have sold out. Helmet laws are about marketing not safety, and even though you call us stupid, we are quite capable of making decisions concerning what we wear when we ride. In other words mind your own business.

I can answer the question as to why some states require seatbelts but not motorcycle helmets. The Federal government can with hold funds from states that don't adopt laws they require. Seatbelts, .008 blood alchohol level for drunk driving are a few. In 1967 they required states to have helmet laws. By the early seventies 49 of our 50 states cave into that blackmail and required helmets. The bikers revolted and got that mandate repealed in 1976 for adult riders, the requirement remains for those under 18. That allowed states to analyze their own situations and act in the best interest of the voters. Helmet laws dropped like flies. About half of the states repealed their helmet laws. Damn, maybe our system of government does work after all! The 55 mph speed limit was another one of the DOTs overstepping good sense.

I always figured "with a face like this, why risk it?" Hah. I live in a mandatory state but never liked the June bugs in face at night either.

These are very good points. Fortunately there are very few times it is important to see the gas tank while riding. And on the occasions when you want to see the gas tank, just tilt your head forward and there it is!

Unless the pipes are too loud, hearing is not a problem either.
