Come on you guys... a lot of bullcrap lately about Chi HD. The one dealer we've been able to rely on for great pricing. Shame on you.
You think ANY dealer stocks the full catalog of parts? You were born last week. You think any dealer has access to everything they sell, overnight ? You were born yesterday. You think any dealer can supply you with your wants & RUB rants just because you want it... you weren't even born yet.
Give the dealers that WILL sell to us at below MSRP a f*(kin break.
I swear some you of you are spoon fed moroons.
your rant would have been so much more effective if you had spelt it correctly......
its either 'maroons', or 'morons'.....
and i know that no dealer stocks the full catalog of parts. but even with zanotti's having to order my stuff from hd, i still receive my stuff in less than 2 weeks (usually). i don't think chd has even read my email in that time frame.
i've heard lakeshore is good, i know surdyke is good, i've used them myself. and there is a few others as well. and guess what? they all order from the same moco as chd, but somehow, they manage to get your order to you in a timely manner, without the drama that chd has.
and you're right about one thing, i wasn't born yesterday.
Lets talk about what i have going on with Chicago HD right now. Order placed 11/08/10. Nothing special. Waited, no rush, but its WAYYYY past a month. Called yesterday....got a clueless parts guy on the phone. After him fumbling around for a long time, started saying that "we have had alot of screwups lately", and that the order was never placed. After me asking when the parts would arrive, he said, "I don't know, call next week".
F THAT.
I've been waiting a month also. I am done with them.
I really didn't think these parts were anything special. An HD windshield, and passenger floorboards.
Order placed on Nov. 27th

Same here. A week after I placed an order with Chicago HD I realized I forgot to order the Service Manual. So, I thought I would try Zanotti's.
When I got the email stating that it would have to be ordered, I thought I would be waiting another month. A week later, my book arrived.
Still waiting on the order from Chicago HD.
I don't think I'll be ordering from them again.
They save you money but time that's different story used to be real good few years back, but I think their popularity made them take real big bites then they should.
I quit CHD a couple of years ago after finding out about Jenni who is now at Tri-County HD. 20% off and if she has it in stock it ships the same day which for me means next day delivery. I have never waited for anything other than painted parts for more than 2 weeks and I've bought a boat load of parts both HD and aftemarket for all the bikes I've worked on.
Gotta love the comments about "well, you get your 20% off so suck it up". That's pure BS. Other online dealers give the same 20% off without the long waits, total lack of communication and pre-ship billing.
One thing I can say about Chicago H-D is that they were very quick to cancel my order once I requested it. That was in fact, the only communication I got from them in 4+ weeks after my original order.
My understanding is that CHD places special-orders to HD for all on-line sales. If I buy from them I just assume it will take a while. OTOH Zanotti's has an inventory list that can be viewed on-line (PDF), and if I'm in a hurry I'll check that list first. If it is an item I must have now and it isn't in Zanotti's inventory I'll just buy it from my local dealer. If they also don't have it in stock I'll order from Zanotti's and just wait. For me they've been quicker in most cases than CHD.
Keep in mind also that CHD works on an MSRP-minus-20% basis while Zanotti's is cost-plus-?% (I think around 10%). Sometimes one is cheaper than the other, occasionally quite a bit, so I always get a quote including shipping before ordering anything. For example, control thermostats for heated clothes are 10%-off at Zanotti's and a fixed 20% at CHD, but the IDS for '07 touring bikes is 35%-off at Zanotti's.
Last November I ordered $800.00+plus parts from Chicago HD and it took 5 weeks to get them,it's not the first time that I order from them and usually the wait time is that long but since I know it I always order well ahead of time.As for Zanotti's I've compared prices and some items are a little cheaper some are more expensive,so in the end it's about the same.I'll stick with them.
I have said it before and I will say it again.... If your buying a bike, Chicago will beat any price you bring them (obviously within reason). But their parts department BLOWS! The guys and gal that work there are totally unprofessional and believe or not will sell your ordered parts out from underneath you if your not careful! I live in Illinois and have dealt with them one too many times... I do all of my internet business with Zanotti, and they are always willing to do the right thing, even with the 2 hour phone window! There are quick to respond via email and will always keep you in the loop on when your parts are shipping... Zanotti all the way... just say no to Chicago Harley parts department!
I gave up on CHD after about four orders. First, they are notoriusly slow with some orders taking six weeks to ship. Second, CHD hits your credit card immediately and uses the float while it sits on your order. Third, the parts reps cop an attitude when the customer calls to inquire about an order made weeks earlier. One rep finally told me that the parts department has been "reorganized" several times because of the problems. All the complaints about CHD on this forum are not the products of people's imaginations. Shop elsewhere.
