I've been looking at the Baggers for awhile now. I rode a friends box stock 04 Ultra about a month ago. More on that in another post, but that motorcycle is properly named. I think the Batwing with the shorty dark wind defl is just bitchin looking. I went to the local dealer's demo-rides last Saturday and I rode a Streetglide. I really wanted to try that combo with the lower windshield and the 1" lowered susp. All the stuff I've read (posts on here mostly) have me really concerend about buying an 07.
I gotta tell ya, that SG was SWEET !!!!!!!! I'm sure the dealers pick the good ones for their demo fleet but I am impressed. The only mod I could see on this bike was SE slip ons (and whatever download??). It had 800 miles on it so it was broke in. I went right out on the freeway. The new bigger motor (for basically stock) goes pretty damn good !!! 5th gear was silent. In fact I had gone a few miles and remembered oh yeah it has 6th (One of the main resons I wanted to ride one, ha ha) . You don't even use 6th until you're doing about 70 mph. At that speed it was showing 2500 rpm.
In fact there's a little ind lite on the speedo that tells you your in 6th. As far as the ride, it is better than my Softail, even with the dropped susp. And the cornering, and the brakes. All better. The shorter windshield works good too. I'm 5'11" . No helmet buffeting, just allot of wind noise. I've found on earlier FX models with smaller windshields, sometimes even 1/2 height makes a difference, so I'm sure a slightly taller one would quiet that down. I didn't try the stereo but I imagine at freeway speeds, it would be hard to hear.
I want to ride a Roadglide next, but with a shorty windshield. I rode one a few years ago, and the stk height one was right in my line of vision. Desides, the shorty looks pretty cool on there too. Everyone I've talked to who has ridden both the Electra Glide and Roadglide for any amount of time swears by the Roadglide, so I'm torn there too. That look is starting to grow on me. I'll also ride a Roadking before I buy anything. Well there's my .02 (ok 5.00)
I here what you are saying about the Roadglide my son has him one on order. He always liked the look of them so when he gets his in and I get to ride it I will compare them. He thought about a Streetglide but in the end he went with the Roadglide.
I really think the RG is becoming one of the top tour bike choices for Harley. I like it also because not everyone has one. Well, not yet any way The Street Glide is very popular and looks nice too.
05 Road Glide, 10,000 mile service tomorrow. Bike had 800 miles when I got it a year ago. Everything said about a Road Glide is true. It's a very comfortable riding scoot. And yes, you can hear the radio at cruising speed. Bike just needs a better ac and pipes to let it breathe. Dyoed at 77 hp and 84 torque.

If the height of the windshield is an issue, consider one of the short ClearView shields for the RG. It's actually lower than stock, but because of the slight "lip" at the top, the wind blocage is actaully better. Plus, you can get teh ClearView in a tinted version that looks real good.
