Default Handlebar Options for Road King Standard

Greetings,

Can someone perhaps point me to a thread that outlines handlebar options for a Road King Standard? I've searched, and seen specific applications, but I'm now being confused by a couple of dealers giving me conflicting information.

I have an '08 Road King Standard, with the factory bars. I'm looking to go towards more of a lower profile setup, rather than the Heritage Softtail direction. Perhaps along the lines of a beach bar, but not quite as wide and swept back.

My criteria however, is that I don't want to change out the cables. It seems the way the stock bars bend/rise, there's room for the cables to accomodate a lower profile bar.

Any links to threads, or input if you have an actual application where you went to a lower profile bar without a cable change, would be greatly appreciated! Also, any pictures of your application would be awesome!

Thanks!

Have a look at the 518's www.wild1inc.com/orderwo518.html I've tried the wo508's and beach bars, but I found the beach bars made me sore between the shoulder blades (they were 39" wide) and the 508's were to wheelbarrel feel. I've waiting for my 518's to get here

Ever consider the Road King Custom stock bar. It's not as low-slung as the beach bar.

I'm just about to install Heritage style bars, but the WO 518s do look quite nice. Can't answer your question about cables though.

I have the 518's and did have to replace the cables. My bike had beach bars before these ones and the cables were tight on the bike. Every time I turned the bars to the right, the cable hit the gas tank...which eventually rubbed the paint. My suggestion it to do it right the first time and change the cables when you do the bars.

Good luck.

I replaced RK custom handlebar with the HD Fat handlebar. Look at my profile pictures. When you change the handlebar replace also the handlebar bushings.

I replaced my bars just because I wanted to hide my wires. I had previously bought new custom cables which I regret that I did not wait. When I decide to do it again I will get the bars that I KNOW will give me the comfort I am after and again replace the cables. IOW, pay now or pay later. Its all about what you can afford and how comfortable you want to be. Tough decision for a poor man like me. I hope you make the right decision the first time....

How does one determine the right bars for comfort and look? I like the "beach bar" look, but which style/brand will give me both - how do you "test ride" bars?

Thanks everyone...

Does a resource exist that would list all of the bars available for the Road King that DO NOT require a cable change of any kind?

I want a lower profile bar, but I don't want the true beach bars, as they're too wide and sweep too far back...
