Got an old riding buddy who I've ridden with for years called me a few minutes ago all torn up. I knew something bad was happening when he couldn't talk. He and his wife of forty two years just came from the doctor...she has maybe six months left to ride. Cancer seems to have come from out of nowhere. No surgery or treatments gonna help they said. We've been riding together since high school, and that's over 45 years. Both our wives love to ride and the four of us logged many a mile together over the years. Lots and lots of good times. Just sucks thinking about telling my wife when I get home. I know a lot of you guys have lost good riding buddies over the years too, guess I just wanted to share...don't mean to sound wimpie just needed to vent I guess.
Forget the riding think how she feels with no where to run to, very few of us in our lives will have a dead end problem a problem like that ? No one to help us no way out of it, none !
sorry to hear, years ago I lost my best friend to cancer , when they found out he had it they gave him 30 days, he made it 33 days, it is never easy, my thoughts and prayers with them and you and your wife
I don't know where you guys are located, but before any docs try anything, I would strongly recommend that they contact Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC (http://www.mskcc.org). They are the best in the country and I have personally seen them do some amazing stuff on cancers that were supposedly terminal.
My girlfriend's father was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The docs he went to were supposedly the best in the area, and they were talking about whether to remove all or part of the stomach and lots of other nasty things that would have totally ruined his life. I told them the same thing about Sloan-Kettering and they called and made an appointment. The docs there scheduled an endoscopy where they go into the GI track with a small tube. They said this would give them a better look and if its localized they can use that same tube to remove the tumors.
Well he went for the procedure, they saw they could get the tumors and they did. He walked out of the office with the cancer removed. Follow up 6 months later, totally cancer free. Your friends situation may be totally different but before you all give up hope its certainly worth contacting them. You never know.
Its a really rough road - I hope the ride gets smoother for all of you!
Nothing wimpy about that, it sucks big time. Let's hope the doctors are wrong about time span. You got my sympathy. Lost my wife almost six years ago to breast cancer at the age of 39. Cancer came out of no where, she lived 1 year after she had operation and treatment. She found lump herself doing her own exam at home. Doctors said she was going to make it but she didn't so they were then let's hope they are wrong again, but this time it will be on the good side

I lost one of my riding/co-worker buddies to throat cancer two years ago and the only reason why I do certain biker events is because he loved going to some specific ones so I always go on his honor...There is not a day that I dont think about him..
