Default thinking new road king

Well tonight my Wife said life is to short, so go ahead and trade in your Dyna on a new Harley. I have always liked the Road Kings. So with that in mind is there any issues with the 10 or 11 Kings I should look out for? I ride solo only, 185 lbs, 5' 9".Any of you that went from a Dyna to a King how do they compare in the long run at,
# Riding comfort
# smoothness of the ride
# Handling
# Motor vibration
# Power, because of the extra weight.
BTW, I have drove 2 RK but it's hard to tell in short rides.
Thanks for any advice I can get.

Contracts on having such an awesome wife! I just traded up from a Dyna this month. I had a similar list of wants and I always loved the RK, after all radios are silly right? My dealer was out of kings but had a nearly new RG w/3k+ in upgrades for $16k. Turns out radios rock!

Buy what makes you smile. Good luck!

Went from a Fatboy to RKC. Should've done it sooner. Get the Classic. It comes with a 103", ABS, Security Sys., and Cruise.
DO IT!

Thanks for the info. I've had experience with RG, the radio doesn't work out very good for me, I have bad hearing loss problems. I don't even turn them on. I also like the look of the windshield over the fairing, but that's just me. So since I know all about RG what I should ask is how dose the RK compare to the RG in the things I listed.
# Riding comfort
# smoothness of the ride
# Handling
# Motor vibration
I'm assuming the power is about the same between them...Thanks.

A Road King is an excellent bike. They're very versatile, and you can strip them down for running around town, or deck them out for touring. Not everyone wants or needs a street glide, although you really should ride the fairing bikes, too, before you make up your mind. It's an expensive purchase, and you don't want to be 4 months into it, and start thinking you bought the wrong bike.

You will feel the extra weight. I think the touring bikes should all get the 103 as standard equipment. Then it's just a matter of doing the stage I upgrades and swapping in some decent cams and you've got a good running scoot.

Myself and a guy on here from New York both got 2009 Road King cop bikes. Mine had like 3700 miles on it. The guy, like myself, have been blown away. Riding comfort is outstanding, I immediately got a Mustang Rider's back rest due to having several 5 hours trips ahead of me at the time, this past October actually. Riding comfort....I still am amazed every time I put my feet up on the floorboards. It's just simply the best it could be, not having had them before, mind you. Smoothness of the ride.. take a test drive. One word for me: stability. These bikes laugh at the wind. Handling...well, it's a heavy bike, so don't be going slow with the wheel turned and hit the front brake unless you want to pick the bike up off the ground. Beyond that, it's still a bike. Not a sporty, but still a 'bike'. Motor vibration...at a stop light, starting it up, again, you know its a bike and for sure it's a Harley because this baby does its thing....the mirrors and frame shake like they should. Put it in gear and the thing smoothes out perfectly. Awesome transition, to me. The 103 engine...again, it's a bike and the 103, stock, allows me to crank it and shoot the gap between cars when I need to. I added the half moon wind thing under the triple tree and added lower front fork wind deflectors because wind is always something to be delt with unless you drive a Honda Civic or a Goldwing.

What I like most is what and why many here would change pipes. I love the purr. It's quiet to me, and rumbles when it needs to. I nearly went deaf on my Sporty after a 5 hour ride with Vance and Hines. Never again. As for a radio, for me, forget it. I like hearing the bike, need to hear the traffic. It's a Harley for God sakes, and even thought these pipes, cop bike pipes, whether their pipes are different than, say, the RKC, I love them. I'm not for environmental noise pollution, and even if I were, I'm definitely for protecting my hearing at all cost. I'd rather be seen than heard, so my money goes to LED lights front and back. Maybe some day I'd consider hard lowers, but for now, my airlite engine guard chaps are serving me well for wind protection in the cold. I feel blessed to have found this awesome machine. Oh, last thing, I had it lowered just a bit before I pulled out to take the bike home....I'm not short and found myself on the ***** of my feet at stops during my test ride.

Funny, I didn't have a wife to deal with. But I did say to myself regarding the purchase....'if not now, when?'

I just picked up my 2011 Road King this week. I traded a 2009 Fat Bob. I went for test rides on all the bikes I liked...Fat Boy, Heritage, Street Glide, hell the Road King wasn't really on my list, but after the test ride just for the fun of it I couldn't get it out of my mind...The only thing I needed to do was replace the handlebars and I choose the popular Heritage style and I am very happy so far. I have not been able to ride much so I will give you my limited opinion.

# Riding comfort
With the new handlebars this is such a comfortable ride. I am still getting used to the floor boards instead of pegs but my legs feel good and I love putting my feet up on the highway pegs! I am in a very good position and can't wait to try a long ride.

# smoothness of the ride
My Fat Bob was stock so I felt every bump in the road, now the Road King feels like a Cadillac in comparison. I do a lot of 2 up riding, and my lady loves the change.

# Handling
Honestly I think the Road King handles better in the city than my Fat Bob did. Could be in my mind but I also thought that the Street Glide was easier too.

# Motor vibration
It shakes more than my Fat Bob did at idle...but I like that. When I rode the soft tails they did not do that at all and it really sucked. Made me think those bikes had no soul, but that is just my opinion. Now just like a Dyna it smooths out real quick when you are rolling.

# Power, because of the extra weight.
It may be a bit slower but not by enough to really matter. I think it has all the punch I need. Guess that is a personal preference.

Hope this helped.
