Shoulda just bought an Ultra, now wife wants speakers, will the wiring plug into an SG? If yes does anybody have the harness part #? Will the stock SG stereo run a 2nd set of Boom speakers ( already have them in front) or do you need an amp ?
As the above description says, you'll need the non-Ultra overlay harness, 70169-06 which connects the rear speakers/passenger controls to the HK radio.
The Hogtunes product is popular, but it does not have fader control since it uses the front speaker signal only. Buy a HD Service Manual for your bike and look at the wiring diagrams and you'll see how the rear speakers are wired, then buy some speaker pods from Dragonfly for 6.5" speakers and install it yourself. If you want fader control, and your bike doesn't already have it, the dealer will need to turn on the fader control in the radio. (If your bass, treble, etc. menu doesn't include fader control, you'll need the dealer to do this.)
As for an amp, lot's of Ultra owners seem very happy without an amp.
I did the same thing... you will need an interconnect harness, I found one on ebay for $75. You will also have to the dealer reprogram the radio from a 2 channel to a 4, that cost me an hours labor.
The stock Harmon Kardon head unit for StreetGlides is 40 Watts
The Ultra's stock Harmon Kardon head unit is 80 Watts
The radio's are the same part no. The non-Ultra uses only the front channels while the Ultra uses the front and back which accounts for the different watt values.
Also, you can access the rear speaker outputs on the back of the radio and have rear speaker signal without the dealer doing anything. The dealer is needed only if the "fader" control on the HK radio hasn't been turned on previously. If "fader" doesn't show up when you scroll through bass, treble, etc., the dealer is needed.
