exactly my thoughts. Do you have pics of what you did?
Here is 3 pics I included of my modified solo seat. Originally was a LaRosa Design bobber seat that we completely tore apart and just used the pan. The seat was built up with 2 different types of foam and gel was inserted into it. All hand done time consuming upholstery work. A new t-brace was constructed to secure the seat to the frame and grinded down so it would not hit the fiberglass pan that was made to cover up wiring. I did not like the height of springs or mini shocks so we found toilet tank parts that have stumps in them that allow the seat not to bottom out. This seat is 10 times more comfortable than the stock and I love the profile on the bike.
Since I made mine a bobber I didn't need to fasten it down but the fiberglass pan that goes under the seat to cover wiring and stuff now uses the original stock hole in the fender and a thumb post screw holds it down instead of stock screw that requires a screwdriver.
If your just modifying an exiting seat then I would try to cut it down to use one of the holes already drilled in the fender. Mine has 3 holes predrilled.
I am out traveling this week but can attach a picture when I get home. Basically I made an H frame from aluminum straps pop riveted to the seat pan, they then attach to the solo seat mounts on the fender.
And yes the tour pack is detachable. I can unplug the harness, remove the tour pack and install a Mustang rear seat that I had left over for a passenger if I want. The rider seat is held on with the mustang attaching hardware nuts so the mustang seat fits right up to it. Slap on the back rest and we are off!
