Ahh!! I just read the OP real quick the first time and assumed he meant the bearing removal tool, you right he did say Cam removal. Funny because 1 other read it as bearing removal (referred to the Beatty tool) and the other 1 told him to take have an Indy or dealer do the cam removal ( I was wondering about this suggestion since it was a TC96, thought maybe he was telling him to have the dealer do the whole cam swap).

Well, I PM'ed the OP and told him I could swing by and drop off my Bearing tool while I am down in that area over XMas, so we will see exactly what he needs.

Yeah, the cam install tool is wasted money. You don't need it to change cams.

I do ALL my own work. Have Built MY motors over the years, I do have a question??

How Many Inner Cam bearings Have YOU seen go bad because of the skip needle spaced design HD uses?(instead of Torrington style full caged bearings)

Maybe I'm taking a chance but on my SE255's into My 09 FLHR, I decided to leave the inner cam bearings alone and NOT replace... I KNOW, IT is like putting a new race (cam shaft) in,,,, then using the old bearing against it.

I did the job that way ON MY BIKE and would ONLY do the full bearing cages on Others.. I don't do mechanic on other bikes for a living , Just to help out friends...

I can't see the need that is MADE-out for the change to the FULL berring as I Hear of NO bearing failures.... Yes I understand that the FULL cage needle roller is BETTER but please TELL me of How Many YOU have seen go BAD?,,,, Please,,, NOT heard of.. But seen..

Over my years of building-repairing, I always HAVE improved on the HD bearings when NEEDED.... Just like the Farce HD put out on the 99 and early 1/2 year 2000 twin-cam bearing.. I caught mine with the CRACK in the Ball-bearing tin spacer on my 2000 FXDS at 14000 miles when I went to Gear drives... Lucky..

My inner cam bearings had less than 10,000 miles on them when I did my 103" Stage II kit, which comes with cams.

I replaced my inner cam bearings with better ones. Did I *HAVE* to? Probably not. But since I had the cam chest open and the cams out already, and since the bearing set only runs about $20, I went ahead and did it. Even just looking at them, you can tell that the torrington cam bearings are much higher quality, and they don't have the gaps in the roller surface between the needles like the stock ones do.

I'll turn that around, Tell me WHY I shouldn't do it given the torrington bearings are better?

I have the tool, cost $93, doing my bike, did my friends bike, and if I let the OP use it that will be 3 bikes (BTW someone else in that area already PM'ed me) so now 4 uses with the tool, amortized cost is $23.25 per cam swap. Pretty cheap for some insurance. Not that I will charge these guys so for them it's free!

YES I DO agree that while apart Replace and the torringtons are BY FAR more bearing, I just didn't take the time Nor have the proper tool for the removal and install..

I HAVE removed HD's before on the block side and didn't like the way My puller worked OR I should SAY DIDN"T work... Came close to dropping ONE needle that came Loose behind the engine half.. PHeeeew close. and YES i counted and counted them again....

No criticism on those of YOU that do it either way...
Kinda liked to hear IF anybody had problems and at first hand..

LIKE mentioned I DID come close in the 2000 cam chest with the problem of HD's POOR Design..

thanks for your replies..
