Odometer counting while sitting still!!!

Update.... I rode for a few hours Friday and for the first time since I bought the bike the odometer seems to be tracking properly "had it about a month"
I haven't been in town to ride much but right now all signs point at the tail light causing the problem.
From an electronics stand point if the led module was shorting 12 volts to ground I could see all sorts of strange things happening. I am not sure this was happening as I didn't even check before tossing it in the trash.
