This is in reference to post https://www.hdforums.com/m_747849/tm.htm (06 SG Broken Upper Fairing Brackets) Spoke with John at HD Customer Service to resolve my broken brackets issue. It was denied because of get this: I had installed HogTunes and a Hidden Antenna. So... this is why people like non-American bikes so much!!! Readers be aware HD will use the "you modified our product, we have not tested it loophole" Three new Harleys sence 2000, $20000 for this one alone and no help on this issuse!!! POed
RE: HD will not replace broken fairing brackets!!!
I think I would try and read the federal warranty law that protects consumers from $hit like this. EX: it says they cannot deny warranty if not using their oil. I would be willing to bet that if you read it through, you could find ammo to fight them with. Somehow it seems it would be unlawful to deny warranty over ugraded speakers, especially when HD offers upgraded speakers. That is what the law is there for, to protect consumers from a company trying to impose a monoploy of the market.
RE: HD will not replace broken fairing brackets!!!
Try looking through the Magnuson-Moss Act - it states that a manufacturer may not require the use of a specific brand of aftermarket product unless it is provided free of charge.
RE: HD will not replace broken fairing brackets!!!
Thanks for all the legal advice! But sometimes you have to be a victim to corporate greed. I'm going on a trip in two weeks and have already repaired it myself. Still POed but, here are some pictures of the repair. Not pretty but with SS screws and nylock nuts it won't need to be looked at again. Moral of the story could be "remove your HogTunes if this happens to you". Safe riding!!! Scott
RE: HD will not replace broken fairing brackets!!!
The HogTunes maybe a little heavier but, not anymore than a windshied bag with some stuff in it. IMHO it's just a loophole they found and don't want to stand behind their product. If you read the other posts this has occured on bikes with no modification. I am a retired Model Maker from Delphi. I personally helped build the prototypes of the current EFI. I know fabrication, materials and machining. They got some "bad" parts. The shaking of the "big twin" stressed and broke one and then the other period. All this in less than 4000 miles. If the extra weight of the speakers did do this, they are real close to failure on everyones bike. I personally don't believe that.

Exept 99.9% of the people who want to fight do not have thepockets to fight them. One guy tried to fight Jeep on a jeep board I am on for two years on this very topic until the guy could not afford to fight anymore. Jeeps atttornies are on retainer and they do not cost them anymore or anyless wether someone wants to fight them or not.
this act really does not apply as the hidden antenna is completey different then the factory one. Adding weight to the front of the bike ( Ill agre minimal and not enough to matter) but that will be there leg. You also tampered with the fairing installing it.
