Default Shift Linkage

Santa brings me a new shift linkage for my 2011 EGC. Of course I have to put it on today because if I stay in the house then I might have to do some chores or something before company comes over. Anyway I have a slight potential issue and was wondering if I am the only one.

The part number is 33814-98A, which is the round linkage. The issue is with the front nut. This mounts on the engine side, goes through the linkage and then through the lever where an acorn nut tightens on the outside. The top of the front nut has very little clearance between the engine. I am concerned that over time that as the levers wear a bit that that will actually hit the engine. I know I can simply find a flat nut to replace the one that came with the kit (of coarse my bolt hording hasn't come across the right size but that is a different problem). I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if they solved it a different way. Could this simply be the way the engine is mounted in the frame - a bit too far left?

The instructions (and the old one), shows the heim joint on the inside of the front.

See page 2:

Wait, wait, I see the picture shows one thing but instruction number 5 says something different.

Thanks Dawg!

And all this time I thought reading instructions were for sissies! A lesson to self to remember - just because you have done it before doesn't mean you know what you are doing!

Thanks guys for the quick responses and the pictures. Merry Christmas .
