Default 18" or 21" front wheel?

I want to upgrade with a set of wheels through Hog Pro. I am unsure if I want 21" or 18" for a front. Leaning torwards a 21.

What do you guys/gals think?

Thanks,
Denis

Denis, a buddy of mine just ordered a set of HogPro 6 packs for his Cobalt FLHX. He is doing the 21" and also getting the shrome lower kit that HD has on sale right now. It should look awesome. I will get pics for ya, since his is exactly like yours.

I have a book on customizing baggers by Tim Remus. You can go 18 or 21 and they work but you have to take into consideration the load rating on the available tires. The stock 16's have a higher load rating which you may need on a touring bike. The 18 has better tires available but they don't have the load rating you may need and they won't last as long. The 21 is a skinny little tire that looks great but may not carry the load of 2 up touring on a 5,000 mile trip.

I have been beating this question to death myself..... There is just something about the look of the 21" that you can't get with anything smaller. There are differing opinions on what happens to the ride and handling. Somewhere on the forum Hogpro said what the affect of the 21" front is but I can't find it now.

I run a 21 on my WG , and on a bagger I'd much prefer more meat.
judge for yourself " top pic is an 18/21 bottom is an 18/18.

As the stock wheel sizes are the same I'd vote to keep the balanced look.

If I were to do it over again I'd do a 21"/18" setup. I have no regrets w/ the 18"/18" but I do like the look of the 21" better than the 18" IMHO...

I too would be conserned about load capacity. Would the contact area on both tires be the same? Does the profile of the 18 allow for more contact patch? With a bagger being more affected by cross winds I would be very concerned with anything that gave me less contact. That fairing can be a big sail if the wind is strong.
