I get a lot of turbulence with this one in my face and it drys my contacts out and after about 40 or 50 miles I get to where I almost can't see. I don't get any head buffeting though and my wife says she is pretty much out of the wind with it. But I want to look over the windhsield but I don't want to mess with her ride either. I'm 5'9" and I thinking about going with an 8" flip up. We both also wear half helmets cause we both get too hot in a 3/4 or full helmet. Is my thinking sound?
Well yes and no.
I say that as you really can't match your physical height to a shield height as a working size ratio. You really need to sit behind and preferably ride with any given screen height to test for fit if possible.
Also other considerations come into play such as fairing height (the 09 and later fairings are fixed a bit higher than the pre-09 models), how close or far away you are to the controls via seating location etc.

Next time you ride feel for air rising from around and in front of the tank, around your legs and upper body at chest and shoulder height, jut behind the fairing and just above your head (and get your passenger to do the same) in a 180 degree arc.
If you are getting a lot of air from under the tank consider mounting a fixed air deflector beween the forks under the lower tree (if there isn't one present already).

Personal preference also plays a big role here-- some like a short screen for looks and put up with the buffeting while others take the taller route and are happy to just be able to just look over the top an inch or two (as I am).
Plenty of good reasons provided here to negate the look through the screen concept...

Also consider that if you choose incorrectly or change your mind later you can cut the screen shorter from the bottom if it's a flip, or at the top if a standard profile. I have a flip screen that I bought based on height knowing that I might have to trim from the bottom (and I did have to)-- no big deal to cut if your handy with tools-- just use another screen bottom or top as a template to mark up from.

Take your time researching, test fit yourself to other screens if possible, check where the turbulence is coming from and make your choice-- you will know if you have it right on your first ride.
One more thought-- if you like to do hard long miles turbulence and buffeting add to fatigue levels fwiw.

Then I bought the LRS - that little flip they have at the top makes a world of difference for buffeting control.

So what you REALLY want is to find one that is a fusion of the Clark and LRS! IMO

Good luck on your search!

I really like the LRS Ultra Flip. I bought the 8 inch originally, was slightly short, caused some buffeting. Had a buddy that it was perfect for, so we bought a 10 inch, now it is in my field of view. I guess I need a 9 inch shield.

I have a dash mounted Garmin, LRS says that if I want the X-stream, I need a 9 inch minimum. I may go for it.

klock werks 8.5 worth every penny. It's about 4 inches below my line of sight and don't get any buffeting yet works good in the rain.

I'm gonna go with the Fast Aire 8 and 9" since their cheap and figure out which size works best for me. And then buy one made of Lexan from another manufacturer.

+1 on the Clarks, they create a larger air pocket.

I use a Freedom Shield 9" light grey on my EG. Extremely easy to install and gives me the additional flip of air over the rider and passenger to significantly reduce buffeting and noise reduction. Customer service was excellent.
