Rather than buying a 07 at this time my wife and I chose to buy a 2003 100th Anniversary Edition Harley. I know a little about engines and bikes but I don’t know a lot about Harley. SOME . Heres the question. The bike is in great condition. It has 23000 miles with 2000 miles on the new rebuild. Meaning it had a big bore kit put on with forged pistons put in. They dyno print out that says it has Max power of 91.54 and Max Torque of 101.42. From what i understand a company in California went through a great deal of trouble to make sure this was installed right. Its had port work and some other stuff done. Some nice pipes. It has some extras also. The guy wants $17.500. Is this a good deal and is the bike going to be reliable. Thank you for helping me out here.
Rick, you can have my '03 ULtra Classic (Police Special Edition) for a lot less than that and it only has 11,000 miles on it. It has about $4000.00 worth of accessories on it and a new rear tire. E-mail if interested d3210@sbcglobal.net
That seems high you can get a brand new bike for 2 grand more and have a warranty. If you have your heart set I would make him a offer arount 14 15 k but thats me , good luck on whatever you choose.
We havent really got down to the money part. I ask Him once and he droped from $17900 to $17.500 . He said because i would have to travel so far. HA . Im sure i can get him down but the Harley shop here has one and they want $17.000 for it also. This bike has upgrads and thats what im trying to find out about.
It's not the deal of the century at that price, even with the motor work. 20k miles is not much ... but depends on how it was ridden, taken care of etc. Buyer beware.
The guy that owned it was 59. He had three bikes. He sold it to a bike shop . I seen it there. Ask why He just walked up and sold it and the dealer said He just wanted to spend more time on His boat and was going to stop riding for a while.
Let me tell ya. It's not $17.000. It's a lot lower. But EVERYONE wants top dollar for a Harley. Theyve put this and that and they feel they should get it all back. Im offering Him $15.500. I think thats fare. The guy didnt give anything for it and i know it. Probubly bluebook. Maybe $10.000
Yes 15, 500 would be about right sounds like a nice bike with the upgrades . Was the motor work done at the dealer ? because they usually warr. the work for 1 year.
The used bike market just does not support getting top dollar for accessories and engine work anymore. I think you are making a fair offer at 15.5, and probably getting a damn nice bike for it. As always, receipts for the engine work would be important to me. I would also consider visiting the shop that did the work and checking things out. Shop cleanliness can tell you a lot about the kind of work that comes out of them.
