My daughter and I used to stop at local hang outs and talk to what we started calling "Stripers". These were the guys who had to have a 100 anniverary bike. It was the same old story:
Well I rode as a kid, but then, you know, life got in the way so I had to sell the bike, raise the kids. Now I am a successful middle class empty nester with disposable income. What better time to buy a Harley and get back into riding?

We would laugh at the same old story time and time again. But, the ones really laughing was the MoCo, since they did a 15 month model year to capitalize on the "Anniversary".

Wanna see who values the bikes? Order a fender stripe or saddle bag stripe kit. That little stripe is dear and the VIN has to be furnished.

I sold a removable tourpak off my 08 glide to a striper at work with a 03 Roadking. He is painting it to match but ain't gonna buy the stripes for it.

Now when my daughter and I are out riding, she will poke me in the ribs and point, "There goes a striper Dad."
We both chuckle still.

I still like the Stripers better than the Duracells. LOL
But I wouldn't pay any extra for one.

I bought an 03 Anniversary Edition because it was my favorite color combination. Don't really care about resale as I don't intend to ever sell it. In about 50 years they'll be sought out by collectors, but I'll be dead and it won't matter.

If you like the bike, buy it but I wouldn't pay extra for an "anniversary edition". All 2003's are anniversary editions so I don't think they are too special.

I like the silver and black paint scheme on the 2003's. I think the 2008 "anniversary" paint scheme is less than desirable with the copper and black. I think Harley had a deal with Duracell that year.

Good luck.

I have an 03 Ultra that I bought used with low miles, but paid no more for it that I would have a 2004. I love the silver / black color and 100 year emblems, and it may be worth a few hundred more, but not worth paying an unreasonable premium to procure.

There were (I believe) 5% of the total 2003 anniversary bikes with red, white and blue color schemes that had a painted emblem on the tank instead of the metal badge. I had a 2003 blue fatboy that I sold a few years ago. I would imagine that if any were to have value (years from now) it would be from that lot and of those they would probably have to be in pristine condition.
