Default hardwire garmin plug to cig lighter?

is it possible to hardwire my garmin power plug to the rear of the cig lighter (inside fairing)? I saw j&m has something the plugs into rear of lighter plug as well. was thinking I could strip the ends of the garmin wire. anyone?

The main thing to appreciate is that, generally, all these types of devices are powered off 5V, so to achieve this the cigarette lighter plug on the charger has some electronics inside that are crucial for charging. Providing you keep these electronics or source a product that performs this same function then you can wire straight on. I believe there are a number of companies that sell these, just google it.

Bottom line, you can't just cut the plug off and join the wires

Here is what I have and use for my bike and car. http://cgi.ebay.com/Garmin-Direct-Wi...item27b561bc84
I have wired it into a quick connect to the charge port for the battery that way can take on and off but could easily be run under tank and seat for perminent connection. Hope this helps

SGdiesel is right ..don't just cut the plug off your cig/lighter.
I got something like this... http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-GPS-NHWC.../dp/B002GU60CE

Hard-wired it to the back of the cig/lighter.... works great.Powers off when you turn off your bike.

There are two unused OEM wires zip tied to the headlight wiring. Why not use those as long as you will be inside the fairing?

Garmin makes a bare lead power cable for it with the in-line fuse and a converter that I used to wire mine to the cig lighter. I just used to snap close wire splices and taped the bare end with electricqal tape so it wouldn't touch anything in the fairing and possibly short. Zip tied everything up neat and trim and viola, works like a champ. When the bike's turned on the GPS comes on, when you shut down the power it goes to battery if you're just temporarily stopped for lunch or a gas break, or you can shut-it down too. Works great. Check Garmin.com and find the one for your model.
