I have a stage I A/C and the back plate is the regular aluminum gray. Thinking of going to a different cover than the football, maybe a nostalgia Round one and would like to paint the back plate a gloss black.
Question is how hot does the back plate get? Do you think I should use a high temp paint? or would a regular enamel paint work? Or should I have it powder coated?
I think it would only get hot at the two upper mounting points at the heads.
Not sure how the paint would look on the rough finish.
You could always try the cheap route first but I think the powder coat would look better and be more durable.
May look even better if the visible surfaces were sanded smooth before any coating is applied.
So are you getting a chrome one for your new ride?
I have a chrome one on the CURRENT ride...we shall see! (I'm actually going to give "stock" a chance for a while, pipes and all. Who knows how long "a while" will be.)
