Default Engine Idle Temperature Maintenance System

Question for the group. The new bikes come with the Engine Idle Temperature Maintenance System; and we have the choice to either disable them or enable them.

Is there any downside in keeping them enabled?, i.e, I am just trying to figure out why they would leave the choice to the dealer or customer to program?

Program? I think the option is to activate not program. Just twist your throttle grip to roll-off position and hold. After approximately 3 sec, the cruise indicator lamp with flash green enabled or red disabled. This option will active only if engine temperature is above 287 degrees F and disable below 275 degrees F.

I leave mine disabled, unless I'm going to do one of the benefit runs through the city or stuck in summer traffic.

Good question. I left mine enabled because it reminds me when she is hot. If it is kicking on, then I know I need to keep moving. Once I get a complete stage 1, I hope it won't turn on much anymore.

Does anyone notice any hesitation accelerating from a stop when the EITMS is on? I haven't used it yet.

The salesman enabled mine on day one. It has only activated once, and that was before I did the stage one last summer. No big deal, she just idels on one cylinder and as soon as you give her a little gas she's back to normal.

There is no hesitation. I live in Phoenix where summer temps approach 115+. There is no reason not to have it enabled.

07 bikes you have to turn it on in the ECM and not the throttle.

sorry doc....didn't mean to say program. I guest my thought is that setting enable or disable is re-programing the default the bikes come disabled from the factory. My tech turned my on after we programmed the SERT.

it is my understanding the EITMS will come on automatically and that it should be set with the engine off. Therefore, if the engine is running....you can't "turn-on" the EITMS by rolling the throttle forward?
