00ultra, you are absolutely correct. years ago, the main breaker (fuse) was causing similar problems (a shop in buffalo ny told me the same thing). however, the condition with the main breaker applied only to specific year models. harley changed that to a 50 amp breaker (used to be a fuse) and have since "remedied that problem".
the wrench at the shop i took my scoot to, told me he called harley 3 times for suggestions. of what he said, harley just gave him the obvious causes. it seems to me the engineers would be able to provide a list of components that would cause a specific problem---but apparently not.
i give this current shop a great deal of credit. the place where i bought it originally, went as far as accusing me of hitting the kill switch. i am sure they were just frustrated because they could not find the problem.
hopefully this is the same part that causing others grief. heck, for $10.0, change it.
All,
I'm having the same problem with an 06 street glide. It's going back to the dealer on Thursday. The problem started after I put all the new parts on. Rinehart true dual exhaust, Kuryakyn twin velocity plus intake and a PCIII (ordered premapped from FUEL MOTTO).
It doesn't seem to be an electrical problem more like a fuel or mapping issue. I'll keep everybody posted.
Went through this very problem with a new 1999 FI ultra I had. They replaced the ecm, did remaps, etc, nothing. Dealership ended up giving me another bike as they could never quite figure it out. Once they got it back they replaced the entire wire harness and that fixed the problem.
Its been awhile since mine has died for no reason -maybe 1000 miles since last-but it did it again this morning.Bike wasrunning maybe 10 minutes prior to getting on hwy.Forth gear throttling when all a sudden, nothing. There was bike in fast lane of two laner.Cycled ignition switch, hit starter, nothing.Pushed off to side of road trying not to become a statisic.Again cycled ignition switch, hit starter and bike lit off. This makes the third time, twice while rolling,no reason,no code stored.Gas tank was near full,no switch wasmistakingly turned off.
bucs012, the ECM controls all your electrics ,spark timing, everything, sorta the Brain ECM = electronic control module Thats what the T-Max & DTT replaces and auto tunes on top of that with wide band o2's Instead of the narrow band o2's in your Hog now.
edit: I was on page one and didn't see page 2 what gunrunner said
My 06 Street Glide has done the same thing 3 times. I put 3000 miles on it this year. I am going to talk to the dealer this week about it. My question is that I did the Stage 1 upgrade my self. a couple of weeks ago. This problem happened befor the upgrade. Should I put the stock stuff back before I go to the dealer? Don't want a hassle with warranty issues. Or do you think it isn't a concern about me doing the stage one myself.
