Hey all - been readin the forums for awhile after having recently bought my first Harley (09 Ultra Classic) thought I might as well join up and be sociable So I guess this is my first Howdy I'm new/help me I'm new post
I recently throwed down a bunch on upgrades for my bike, basically outfitting it as a 103 Limited with Ironsides collection boards, pedals, grips etc. I also sprung for all LED lighting - headlamp and auxiliaries, tail lamp. I also want the turn signals front and rear but the parts guy tells me that I cannot use them because they interfere with the security system on the bike. (per the head service tech). He also said HD does not have a load equalizer. I searched a lot of posts about LEDs but nothing really hit on the security issue. Has anyone heard of this or run into it themselves? I understand about the load equalizers helping the TSSM see the correct power load for the lights in general but I can't see how LEDs would interfere with with the security. The part #s (all HD) of the lights are:
Headlamp 73390-10
Aux 73396-10
Turn Sig F 68435-10
Turn Sig R 68127-10
Brake 68086-08
I have yet to talk to the tech specifically - but I thought I might ask ya'll and see what popped up. thanks to all and have a great day!
I have an 07 FLHTCU with the factory Alarm that I installed the Kuryakyn LED turn signals. they came with a load equalizer for the front and rear lights. without them they do cause Alarm issues
The security system works through the TSSM (TSSM = Turn Signal Security Module). The signal lights are incorporated into this process. You will need Load Equalizer, I highly recommend the Badlands line because they are ceramic and do not heat up so you can let your 4 ways run or tyour signals and they won't overheat like traditional equalizers will. I've had LEDs on 3 bikes and run the Badlands units for years with zero problems.
The HD LEDs don't require an external load equalizer.
Welp according to the tech I finally got to talk to today, it was confirmed the new 2011 HD led turn signal kits do not need a equalizer and they are the 3 ways with running, brake, and signals. I think the tech that gave the security issue info before was thinking about aftermarket kits. But we will see what happens when I get the bike back.
If you buy the HD LEDs you have the option of not hooking up the run mode. They will only operate in the turn/brake mode.On my 06 I had the old module that was turn/brake only and I was looking for something similar for my 09.
